HOW TO FAQ - How to get a Source for iHeart.com

Postby eMzw7gJ2NjEdmoNkiR9B » 04 Oct 2017, 19:36

See my earlier post above "HOW TO FAQ - How to get a Source for your station"

You will normally see an Acrobat page with multiple playlist.m2u8 entries. Rather than stream continuously, each entry streams for a fixed about of time, normally a minute or so. Each also has a session ID and lots of information about the person that initiated the stream.

for web page https://www.iheart.com/live/WMAN-AMFM-4121/, I get:
https://c7.prod.playlists.ihrhls.com/41 ... SessionID=[lots of personal information deleted to preserve my privacy for this post]&devicename=web-desktop

I have tried streaming the first part https://c7.prod.playlists.ihrhls.com/4121/playlist.m3u8 and it does stream in RadioSure and other players- even with the https (reviewers have chastised me for submitting https, but it works. So does http and I try to remember to remove the "s" for the reviewers). Unfortunately, this link will play erratically. Every minute or so it will stop and then restart.

The correct, smooth stream for this station is http://c7icy.prod.playlists.ihrhls.com/4121_icy Note that the 7 in c7icy part corresponds to the 7 in the c7.prod.playlists.ihrhls.com - it can be any one or two digit number from what I have seen. Normally it is a one digit number. The 4121 comes from both the web page of the station as well as the /4121/playlist.m3u8 part of the playlist URL.

UPDATE 1-November 2017
In addition the the format shown above ( http://c7icy.prod.playlists.ihrhls.com/4121_icy )
a second format works as well: http://c7icyelb.prod.playlists.ihrhls.com/4121_icy

thank you for the information, that is very interesting
About the "reviewers" (you mean "the approvers" ?) and the https:
Every time I see https, I do test the stream, because , by nature , RS does not handle secure protocol, however, in a few occasions it works (sometimes with a serious delay), and maybe because the server does as well serve http as https, and if https does give conflicts at server side, the server tries http as protocol.
That is why I ask any submittor or editor of stations : " Do test the stream in RadioSure itself", because I know , the https stream works always in smartphones(internal players), VLC players etc..., but the main goal is to let it work in Radio Sure without delay.
There are even occasions, wher only the https can be used , and yes Radiosure accepts it, the better I would say, but maybe in that case , a short note in the comment field of the station, that only https works ( in RadioSure)would be clarify this exception.
Further all my thanks to the volunteers that keep our stations base live and working, and let us hope , the radiosure board will continue to maintain the websites. ( I wonder how they can manage that for the low license fee from users, and for how long ...)

You are welcome. Thank you for approving. Yes, I do try to remove the "s" but sometimes make mistakes. Glad that approvers check my work!

iHeart.com is quickly moving away from the akacast.akamaistream.net domain for its streams and to the prod.playlists.ihrhls.com domain. Last week, I tested dozens of akacast.akamaistream.net that worked fine, but they no longer work today. One that still works today is http://whp-am.akacast.akamaistream.net/ ... net/whp-am but I expect it to stop working in the very near future. I moved that from source 1 to source 2 and added http://c10icy.prod.playlists.ihrhls.com/4027_icy as source 1.

A google search just now shows that there are 971 instances of akacast.akamaistream.net in the radiosure.com database that may need to be replaced:
