http sources yes, https sources no?

Postby eMzw7gJ2NjEdmoNkiR9B » 05 Feb 2018, 00:04

I see many updates submitted with https streams including some of my own. I try to change them to http and will continue to do so because since I have been asked to do so.

I have been told that RadioSure can not play https streams but I have never found an https stream that it could not play, it is able to play each and every https stream that I have tested.

The current RadioSure database includes https streams for the following stations and they all play for me with no issues:

Re: http sources yes, https sources no?

In my version of Radiosure , https does NOT play ( has never play from the many years I use RS), only in very rare occasions, when the url-link is indirect or redirected to a non-secure server, then it can play. Therefore I always test the https on my radioplayer (normal computer using Windows XP) My connection is direct, my ISP does not use any proxy server, so it is only the radioplayer connecting directly (Maybe I should try using a belgian proxy for my radio, and see if it changes the https connections , altough that is not a wishfull solution to set https free, since proxy access changes, except if your own ISP uses one, than you have a script updating the server adresses (My former ISP = Telenet did use proxies and scripts.. Did not allow direct access to internet. My current ISP does not use proxies, and the connection is mixed internet and tv streams , and local Wifi and even public Wifi in one modem)
Are you always using a proxy (Is your ISP using one always to connect )??, maybe that can change the secure to normal stream, even when connected secured
If the sheet contains http as first stream, and you add https streams on source 2,3,..., there is in fact no problem, since the radio always connects to the first stream, and only if that fails it tries to connect with the second and so on
That is also Why, if someone puts a station to delete with https stream, I always test first if the station does not connect with http, and even then I could be wrong, because I should test with a proxy of the country the station is situated. to be sure the https is not the cause (unless you put text station has ceased of coarse)

Thank you for explaining. It is good to have the explanation in the forum for all to see.

The stations in my original post are https in the first stream. If someone has time for a project to change them to http, that would help listeners like you.

I do not know if my ISP uses a proxy - if it does, it is invisible to me. In RadioSure, I never use a proxy unless it is one of the free proxies, and only then do I use it for testing or listening to Geoblocked streams.

Hi,
I have the same "problem" of eMzw7gJ2NjEdmoNkiR9B.
For me the https works fine on rs.
So sometimes I putted on source https file.
I pay attention now to the protocol and I don't have any problem to change an https in http when i found one, the problem is rember it....
About proxy: My ISP is named Wind and is an adsl very normal, very slowly hahaha and I don't think use a proxy.
Best regards,
marcoibk

Well, it could also be, some servers do change https to http after connection. The https = secure protocol and demands coding of the stream. On negotiating between server and the client, it CAN happen, the server does change its protocol to http (altough been called for connection as https), and then the stream succeeds. In each case, on trying https, I wait a long time until radiosure itself says "connection failed".
Weird cases , like https does connect , and http does not happen also (today found such a radio, and I do notice clearly, that https is demanded and works by that radio in the comments field)
Maybe (a dream???!!!??) admin visits the forum and ask his/her developper to fix the issue of secure streaming, so all streams are accepted ( as in most portable devices happens , and some players accept it too, like VLC)
Some friends / radio fixers even think radiosure can cope with the adress of website players or services with a client number at the end...., and sometimes just mention"plays on website", but still put station for deleting and not get the stream from the website (altough we will help them to achieve the stream-detection from websites)

FYI-

I have found some https streams that play for me, but the corresponding http stream DOES NOT play.
Here is an example:

https://live.streamguys1.com:2753/kaxe <----does play
http://live.streamguys1.com:2753/kaxe <----does not play

https://amber.streamguys1.com:4372/wxpr2 <-- does play
http://amber.streamguys1.com:4372/wxpr2 <-- does not play

I found that there is a corresponding http stream:

http://live.str3am.com:2750/kaxe <----does play
http://amber.streamguys.com:4370/wxpr2 <--- does play

If you encounter an https stream from stream1guys.com, be sure to test the http stream before submitting it. If it does not work, try the corresponding str3am.com stream

I do agree there exits situations where https does work and http does NOT. To avoid confusion, please note in comment of radio-sheet "works with https" or "tested in RS for https", or simply "https=OK", so we (I or other approvers) do not have to test again.
Why RS sometimes handles crypted files (secure protocol) is not clear, unless the server , upon negotiation, decides to stream un-encrypted.
If we only could reach admin, to ask for making https common (as most browsers do), then problems could not occur by using https (unfortune, admin did even not visit the forum since april 2017, - mods can see that on admin's profile, when he last visited)
Anyway , thanks a lot for contributing working around the issue
