the curious case of RAI Radio 5 Classica

Postby tmf » 21 Feb 2018, 19:09

I frequently listen to Rai Radio 5 Classica

but by playing it with RadioSure the time is shifted to 8 hours backwards (i.e. at 03:00PM is played what has been aired at 07:00AM)

by using the VLC Player the actual air time is complied according to the official website

http://www.raiplayradio.it/radioclassica/

Please can you check in order understand why this happens and fix?

Hi,
I'm italian.
In this moment 22.00 CET for me the streaming on the web site and the stream of RS are the same (they differ a few seconds).
Best regards,
Marco

Hello I am Dutchman,

RAI Radio 5 Classica is maybe my favourite station. Every week I receive 7 Pdf’s by e-mail with the complete music list.

Wonderful station and always the music goes together with the clock.

Hello, thank you for the replies but I think all of you are using the OLD low quality MP3 96kbps stream

http://icestreaming.rai.it/5.mp3
I don't like it because the bitrate is too low

I have realized that I have forgot to mention that I'm talking about the brand new perfect audio quality stream

Since january 2018 a new 128kbps AAC stream is available and it is the one adopted from the main website.
it is accessible by using the following URLs

http://mediapolis.rai.it/relinker/relin ... ont=173832

http://radioclassica1-lh.akamaihd.net/i ... &rebase=on

Both play on RadioSure and I meant they are the ones that features the 8 hours timeshift problem

If you open them with VLC they are synchronized with the playlist but when used with RadioSure there is a timeshift of 8 hours

Please try
I would suggest to use the new 128kbps AAC stream because they provide the perfect audio fidelity so would be nice if RS could be fixed to have the right playlist times

You can also find that the RAI website has implemented an advanced timeshift feature in order to allow to play all the programs featured in the previous 8 hours so most likely RS encounters an issue by handling the play at the beginning of available stream and not some special handling to "skip" to the "real time"

Hello tmf,

In my VLC Player your first AAC stream does not work, the second one gives indeed completely different music from the 96 kbps stream.

So, the problem is not only Radio?Sure! related.

Very interesting!

Correction: the difference between the two streams is only a few seconds. The first AAC link produced a VLC file that I had not seen.

maybe I have understand what's happening.

every time it loads a segment index file: index_200_a-p.m3u8 (an actual one is attached)

it contains the list of every segment filename

i.e.:
segment151971310_200_a-p.ts (at the beginning)

segment151974187_200_a-p.ts (at the end)

151971310 and 151974187 corresponds to the time in seconds x 10 (because every seg keeps 10 seconds of sound)

the difference is 2877 near to 2880,
28800 is the number of seconds in 8 hours (60x60x8)

RadioSure starts to play from the first segment (8 hours ago)
VLC starts to play from the last (the current time)

So the question is which is the default specification to handle .M3U8 files?
Starting from the begin or the end?

RAI Radio keeps all these segments available to provide the capability to listen again what has already been aired (by using his website)

Hello tmf,

Because Radio?Sure! always overruled my own decisions, for example in name assigning, I went over to “VLC Player only”. The reason for name changing in Radio?Sure! might be, I hope now, because “Synchronise favourites with database“ was switched on.

As a result of this interesting case I installed Radio?Sure! again.

It surprises me that a “new station” with correct VLC Player-behaviour is not accepted as it is. The music is indeed completely different from the VLC Player stream, and I believe you, if you say it is 8 hours behind.

My wish is: Radio?Sure! should respect a “new station” exactly like the user wants it, because it is only for private use.

We’ll have to wait for some kind of reaction from the Radio?Sure! team.

To give You an idea about "wait about some kind of reaction..."
The last time , admin was here , is from april 14 2017 (about 1 year ago...), so calculate the response !!!
Since the problem occurs with m3u8, a stream protocol (HLS) sending in chunks, it depends only on how you connect to the station: by adding a chunk number or not (mostly the first occurence of the stream list (URL snooper) is the starting URL, and has no chunk number on it. Maybe the sound starts then with the lowest number ???, or starts with the current position???, must be investigated.
What the programmers of RS can do about it ??? (omit the chunk numbers ?, RS uses a decoding module for the various kind of stream-protocols, more specific "basshls.dll"
Maybe you can search the site of bass decoders for other (better) decoders, and replace the one in the RS folder (but be sure the name is then exact the same, since the programm relates to it on detecting a m3u8 stream. (wich one is according VLC player ??)
( to be clear: I am a MOD, Not a team member, since there is no contact with the board whatsoever , except my task for cleaning the forum from sexual abuse-advertisings and lots of spam cleaning (things YOU are not aware off, because you do not see it as postings.., only the profiles can show short time links to porno-sites or factory-/shops-, there is nothing I can do to help here, not even (better than you) contact the admin !, since admin did not respond on messages to him/her from 1 year ago
----------------
There is a newer basshls.dll on the site http://www.un4seen.com/, and the newer version is BASSHLS 2.4.1.1, while the version on the RS2.2.1046 is 2.4 beta. Testing now myself...(the new dll is more than double size, and works, but for the time shifting... upto you for testing it
